Port of Cartagena: Investing in getting people trained is really relevant

José María Gómez Fuster, CEO of the Port of Cartagena (Autoridad Portuaria de Cartagena) in southeast Spain, puts staff training at the heart of the port’s strategy, including its work with UNCTAD’s TrainForTrade programme. He also points to two other priorities: a ready electricity grid for cutting emissions, and trust for digital platforms, so people feel confident sharing their data.

Mr. Gómez Fuster was a panellist in the TrainForTrade’s session “Green Investments in the Port Sector” at UNCTAD’s World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha, Qatar. The World Investment Forum is the United Nations’ leading platform for dialogue between governments, investors, business leaders and international organizations. It brings together the public and private sectors to address the forces reshaping global investment, from geopolitical tensions and technological disruption to industrial policy, energy security and sustainable growth
