TrainForTrade to host parallel event on Port Management at UNCTAD16

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development will be held in Geneva, Switzerland at UNCTAD headquarters, the Palais des Nations, from 20-23 October 2025. TrainForTrade has been selected to host a Port Management parallel event on 22 October, the event, titled Future Ready Ports: Digital and energy transition strategies, will bring together CEO level guests from around the world to discuss emerging trends in port management related to the digital transformation and energy transition in ports.

This event will host a panel discussion spotlighting strategies for:

• Transitioning ports to sustainable energy to reduce emissions and modernize their energy mix.
• Embracing digital solutions—such as smart infrastructure and data-driven operations—to enhance efficiency, mitigate environmental risks, and strengthen decision-making.

Questions for discussion:

• What challenges do the digital transformation and energy transition create for ports in the global south?
• What investments must ports prioritize to successfully navigate the energy and digitalization transition?
• What role should government policy and international frameworks play in supporting ports’ efforts to modernize and decarbonize? Are current regulations facilitating progress?
• What are the best practices and lessons learned from ports that are more advanced in the digital transformation and energy transition?

These topics align with UNCTAD’s 2024 Review of Maritime Transport, which underscores the urgency of port digitalization and decarbonization. Sharing knowledge from ports in the global South is a priority, aiming to help shape sustainable futures across diverse contexts.
