12-16 October 2026; Kilifi, Kenya. The UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Management Programme (PMP) supports port communities in developing countries in delivering more efficient and competitive port management through its three language-based networks (English, French and Spanish) with partners and members from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.  To increase trade flows and foster economic development, the PMP creates port networks, bringing together public, private and international entities. The aim is to share knowledge and expertise between port operators and strengthen talent management and human resources development in port communities.  The PMP is an effective tool for strengthening port management skills and improving port performance. The Modern Port Management course comprises eight modules that examine all the aspects of managing a modern port. To effectively deliver the course, UNCTAD relies on senior managers from the network’s member port communities and port partners, along with UNCTAD experts and other international experts to train port professionals so that they may effectively deliver the course content at the national level. TrainForTrade periodically organizes Training of Trainers (ToT) and Coaching Workshops. Whereas the ToTfocuses primarily on course content, Coaching Workshops concentrate on strengthening the trainers’ teaching skills and their ability to effectively transmit knowledge and engage workshop participants.

Objectives

The objective of the Coaching Workshop in Kenya is to train actual or future instructors of the UNCTAD TrainForTradePort Management Programme committed to delivering the Modern Port Management course at the national level. Instructors from the Kenya and other member countries of the English-speaking network will acquire knowledge and skills on the TrainForTrade methodology of course delivery.

About 18 port managers from the Kenya Ports Authority will attend the event.

Co-organizer(s): Kenya Port Authority
