TrainForTrade Modern Port Management course in Cameroon, Module 2: Organisation of a port system for Cycle 15
The UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Management Programme (PMP) supports port communities in developing countries in delivering more efficient and competitive port management in the future. In order to increase trade flows and foster economic development, the programme creates port networks bringing together public, private and international entities. The aim is to share knowledge and expertise between port operators and strengthen talent management and human resources development in port communities.
The PMP’s main objectives
- Strengthen institutional capacity and management efficiency of ports and related agencies.
- Promote port community participation and public-private partnerships.
- Enhance the competitiveness of ports and the quality of their services.
- Improve the environmental sustainability and social responsibility of ports.
The PMP provides technical assistance in various areas, including port planning, management and operations, logistics and supply chain management , port security, safety and environmental protection, and legal and regulatory frameworks. It also organizes training courses, workshops, and seminars, as well as conducts research and analysis on port-related issues.
Programme outline
As part of the activities of the French-speaking network of the TrainForTrade Port Management Programme, the 34 trainees of the 15th cycle of the port community of Douala, Kribi and Limbe (16 women 47%) will complete all eight modules of the course on Modern Port Management for months (240 hours) from September 2023 to the end of 2024. With the supervision of local port experts trained by UNCTAD, the trainees also wrote a thesis consisting of a case study concerning a real problem and providing concrete recommendations to improve the performance of the port community of Douala, Kribi and Limbe.
34 trainees from the 15th promotion of the modern Port Management Programme will defend their thesis in front of a jury made up of international experts who are also members of the TrainForTrade network.
October 25 – November 2, 2023: in Douala, Cameroon: Start of the seminars of module 2 of the Course on Modern Port Management at the Autonomous Port of Douala, for trainees of the 15th promotion of the UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Certificate of Douala ports, Limbé and Kribi as well as community operators like CNCC, RTC, APN (including 16 women 47% of the workforce).
Module 2 is entitled “Organisation of a port system” and is structured into two sub-modules: Sub-module 2A: The role of the port and Sub-module 2B: Port organization at national and local levels. Sessions are delivered by national instructors previously trained as trainers at TrainForTrade coaching and train-the-trainer seminars.
Participants will have to answer the test and the opinion questionnaire on Friday 31 November 2023.
