Following the delivery in 2014 and 2015 of the 8 modules of the “Modern Port Management” course designed specifically to strengthen middle managers’ analysis and management skills, this year marked the closing of cycle 3 of the UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Training Programme (PTP) for Indonesia. 21 middle managers of the following 17 port entities across Indonesia: Pelindo I: Branch of Dumai Port, Branch Pekanbaru, Belawan International Container Terminal (BICT), Pelindo II-IPC: Head Office, Tanjung Priok Port, Palembang Branch, Multi Terminal, KSO TPK Koja, Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT)Pelindo III: Head Office, Terminal Petikemas, Branch of Perak Port, Pelindo IV: Head Office, Branch of Makassar Container Terminal, Branch of Ternate Port, Indonesian Navy -Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Laut (TNI AL): Lantamal III, Satlinlamil Jakarta, presented their dissertations to a panel of port experts. This exercise involves conducting research on a concrete problem in their port community and propose feasible solutions to senior management.
The best 3 case studies are: 1. “Review of the implementation of JICT online billing and payment system,” 2. “Feasibility study of electrification in yard operations,” and 3. “Establishment of finance self-service in IPC.” The other studies related to subjects on port operations, finance aspects, human resources development, incentive schemes, marketing strategies, containers handling, optimization of port equipment, information technology and quality, yard design and related equipment, and port security.
The President Director of Pelindo Group, Mr. R. J. Lino, is very pleased with the results of the third cycle of the UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Training Programme in Indonesia. Since 2009, when the first cycle was launched in Jakarta, Mr. Lino has been using the PTP as an instrument to promote the best candidates and rotate the functions of senior staff in other to expose them to a larger scope of the port activities in the country and increase their level of responsibilities. This new vision of management and company culture has been thriving for the last 5 years and produced excellent results for Pelindo II. Suffice to say, the planning for the launch of Cycle 4 in Indonesia is envisioned in the second half of 2015.
